Blogs are a good thing

Imagine my surprise when I started getting congratulations notes
in the mail for "Best Local Blog" in Savannah. I guess I have been too
busy to read but it certainly is a fun discovery.

It says: The blog of Cheryl, co-owner of Back in the Day Bakery,
is a delightful compendium of tips and tidbits about what she calls
the "lost art" of baking from scratch.

Congrats to me and lots and lots of Buttercream Roses to all of the
bloggers that inspire me everyday.

I Love this Job

I recently hosted the first ever baking class at the bakery and
I have to say that it was the best day ever of my baking career.

Seeing the excitement and enthusiasum in their small faces
reminds me why I do what I do every day. As I prepared for
class I remembered how much fun I used to have baking with
my mom. I enjoyed the planning, organizing, looking though
cookbooks, stirring, waiting and listening to old family stories.
I could pass the day away making baby cakes in my
Easy Bake oven. We would always start with putting
on one of my grandmothers aprons. To this day I still collect
vintage aprons.

I wanted to teach them something that they would always
remember too which began with putting on one of my
vintage aprons. They got such a kick out of picking one
out of the big basket.

All of these girls touched me in a very special way and in turn
gave me something new to remember everyday.

I love baking. I love the memories and he smells that remind
me of my mom especially since she has passed away. We just
never know how little life experiences will touch our lives.
I still remember the stories. You will hear me tell them.

Baking with the girls today was the best day ever...
until I get to bake tomorrow.
