The moment of truth came when we were
planning our 1st annual vacation. Actually,
Griff and I had been working non stop for 3
years since we were in the conceptual
stages of planning to open the bakery.
We both did all of the painting, decorating
and styling along with kitchen planning
and purchasing of every detail down
to the perfect raw sugar packets.
Let me tell you construction work isn’t
easy and I have a whole new appreciation
to an ice cold beer after a long days work.
We decided that we would get hitched
during the break and since our schedule
is so intense all year long, that we would
just leave the details to chance.
Just a little back story, both of my parents
have passed away and Griff’s Dad was not
well enough to make the trip. So we headed
down to the courthouse and purchased our
marriage license and in my purse it went.
We decided to shop for rings on our vacation
and get married at the beach when
we returned home.
But apparently even eloping
takes planning and we hadn’t planned a thing.
We went on a self-guided foodies tour in Atlanta
andshopped, ate, rested, got inspired and had
a really great time. We never got around
to shopping for rings or getting married for
that matter. So back to work we go.
It didn’t really matter because we were
already married in sprit. The first Saturday
after our return my favorite judge comes
in for a loaf of bread and asked “How’s
married life?" Uhh well. I knew I couldn’t
tell a tale to the judge because he happens
to be the judge that would be signing my
marriage decree. I said “It didn’t happen
I guess we’ll just have to
come to your office one day”. The judge thought
in contemplation for a moment (*while he had
been without his multi grain bread for a week)
and said "I have my robe and vows in the
car would you like to do it now." It was like a
slow moment but a fast “SURE” that just quickly
came out of my mouth.
So we got married just like that in the middle of
the lunch rush at the bakery and all of the
elements came into place including that
marriage license that was still in my purse.
After things settled down a bit, I realized
that we are working way too hard. After all,
our motto is to “Slow down and taste the sweet life”
and we are teaching others to appreciate the
simple joys in life. Well that includes me too.
I look forward to writing, growing, unexpected
acquaintances, discovery and sharing the
sweetest days of my life.
So stop by and say hello.
