My Golden Ticket

I remember the day Kelli called. It's the moment every
baker dreams about. Would I be interested in submitting
a recipe to Chocolatier Magazine, she asked? As IF I had
to think about it. I remember reading about Kelli's
path to Chocolatier. As a fellow baker, it is a special
feeling to come across someone who shares my passion for
baking.

The fact that she is following her dream makes it even
more exciting. Kelli is a part of what I call the 80/20
group. 20% are doers and 80% are talkers. I enjoy hearing
and meeting other 20 percenters who follow their "Big Ideas"
as Martha calls them. It sounds easy enough to do "THE" thing
that you love the most, but in truth it is not always that
easy. Most people can easily talk themselves out
of doing just about anything.

As I typed the recipe for the cake that I grew up baking
with my Mom, I thought about the path that has led me to
this point. How exciting to think about having a stylist
set up my cake as I typed my recipe to submit to the
editor. The desserts in Chocolatier come to life with
beautiful photography and to have one of ours showcased
was truly amazing. The double dipped chocolate is my
absolute favorite cake.

It is the kind of cake you want to eat when you want
a slice of chocolate cake. Moist and chocolatey goodness
in every single bite. I make it every single day at the
bakery and I never get tired of eating cake tops.
They are the best! So today as I picked up a copy of
Chocolatier Magazine it was very much like Charlie
pealing back the wrapper and finding the golden ticket!

Check out our first published recipe in the December issue.
Next stop for this doer?
The cookbook I hope.

Hey Cheryl!
Congratulations on being asked to submit a recipe to such a good lookin' magazine! I don't think we get it here in London, though I'll certainly keep an eye out for it when I'm back in the States. Would you consider posting the scanned recipe from the publication on your blog so that we can get a bit of a vicarious thrill from your success (hm..reading that bit, there, I'm thinking I fall into the 80% talker category!)?
Best of luck - you're quite an inspiration.

Hi! Congratulations! That's such an accomplishment! I've never heard of Chocolatier, but I'll have to look for it. I'm new to your site, but I like it a lot, and I've recently realized that I have a passion for baking, so now I'm trying to read all I can about it. I'll definitely be back! Would you recommend Martha's baking handbook?

oh wow. That's so awesome!! Congrats! That is a HUGE accomplishment. To be published is something to be proud of. But even more..to be a 20%er, someone who lives out their dreams is the real prize. My business has started out very small & it's growing by tiny tiny baby steps, but I see my ideas & my skills, my confidence in my abilities..I see all of that grows so i can imagine how amazing it must feel to have your own sucessful bakery.

Congratz once again!!

YEAH!!! The cake did come out beautifully. Our editor commented on how much she liked making your frosting since your method of letting it rest results in a really glossy, beautiful finish.

Congrats on the beautiful cake. It was that cake that got you in the magazine, I was only the middleman! Can't wait for the cookbook.
