Paula Deen says: "The harder I work, the luckier I get"

I was so excited to receive my new Paula Deen book in the mail.
For those of you who don't already know it, I am a HUGE
Paula Deen fan! Of course, how could I possibly be a woman in business
and not be so proud of her success. The woman is a genius!
So when I heard that she was writing her memoirs, I signed up for an early copy.

Ok for those of you who just landed. Paula Deen co-owns
The Lady and Sons restaurant here in Savannah with her adorable
sons Bobby & Jamie and is a food network star. Remember Griff and I
over the holidays hanging out with the boys on their own food network
show Road tasted making peppermint marshmallows & our famous
red velvet cupcakes. Well let me just tell you this is the nicest family
and so much fun to be around.

I read it from cover to cover and let me tell you it is so good from
beginning to end. It was candid and genuine and I just loved it!
There are so many great stories that I can relate to on a personal level.
Paula & I have alot in common. I also lost my parents in my twenties
and recently my sister who meant the world to me. These are the kind
of life experiences that hit you hard and make you stronger IF your
lucky. Her book is very encouraging for me.

So when Brandon called to tell me that Paula Deen told her entire
cooking class that my cupcakes brought tears to her eyes because they
reminded her of the ones her mom used to make, I literally cried myself.
It was more than surreal. In her new magazine she says our old fashioned
cupcakes are her absolute favorite. It is so much fun when all of her fans
stop by on "The Paula Deen tour" on a big Old Savannah tour bus.

The food business is really tough and the hours are super long.
Finding encoragement is always a good thing. Griff and I never
cut corners and we put alot of love into everything we make.
We both enjoy developing new recipes that are cravable to us
and all of our customers as well.

I can't explain the feeling I get when people are enjoying something that
I am so proud to serve. It is so wonderful when someone takes the time
to come up to me at the bakery or send me an email about how much
they enjoyed visiting our little bakery in Savannah.

I never under estimate the power of good food. I can't tell you how many times
someone comes up to me at the bakery and thanks me for creating a happy place
for them.

This week our passion for food landed us in Cooking with Paula Deen,
New York magazine and we were voted Best Bakery in Savannah.
Be sure to check them out via our website, in print or come visit us in
Savannah this summer and I will cool you down with a glass of SWEET tea.
