Creating our Nest

Griff and I are having the best time working on our
house and turning it into our special oasis.
We have so many projects, but somehow they
are all enjoyable.

I am so happy we made the decision to buy this house.
We had our eyes on another one in the same
neighborhood but they didn't accept our offers.
It was a good thing they didn't. We knew the right house
was out there and we were so ready to find it.
Our realtor convinced us to take a closer look
at this one.

It just didn't look like much from the curb.
It did not seem like the kind of house we were looking
for at first glance. We decided to check it out
keeping an open mind. Fortunately, we are both
creative enough to see beyond all of the odd paint
colors. A deep dark rusty burgundy kitchen, French's
brand mustard yellow dining room for example.
Definitely not in our color palette. Thank goodness I
used to be a painter in my last life and Griff is very handy too.

Just like the experts all say, seconds after seeing the inside,
we knew it was the house for us. It has a nice flow, great
light and all of the vintage details that we both adore.
It is actually much bigger than we thought and the
back yard is even better than we imagined.

As my sister used to say, it has good bones.
We saw amazing potential. Thank goodness
Griff and I agreed that we could turn it into the
California bohemian cottage that we were still
dreaming about ever since our summer vacation.

Perhaps in the Spring we will paint the exterior,
plant a garden and install a picket fence
like my all time favorite. Lovely!

How great is that? I bought my little place back in July, but had been so busy I never got to do much work on it. Now that the weather picked up, I've taken to working more and making a fun place outside for me and the pups. I just hope the weather continues to hold out so I can make some real progress. Good luck to you on yours!

Hi Cheryl
My name is Sherril too (same pronunciation, different spelling) and I found you and your blog while perusing the posts on the SlowTravelers Forum for the Great Gathering in Savannah in the beginning of April. I am going to that gathering and now I know where I will get to satisfy my sweet tooth. I will also be back to read more of your blog. I hope you will be returning to it soon. I noted your last post was in Jan. I invite you to come visit me at Sherril's Myriad of Musings and I hope to see you in April at your bakery.
