Cedric and the City

My very talented friend Cedric Smith
is doing a show of his Amazing work
at the Dillon Gallery In Chelsea, NYC.
My goal in life is to own as many of his paintings
as I can possibly afford. I just love his work!

If you are in the NY area,
you must stop by to see his work.
The show starts this Thursday at 6 PM
& will be on display for a month.

Just in case you missed it

Continued Success

Today we had the Travel Channel stop in to tape
a segment with us. It is always great to talk to
people that don't know anything about the bakery
because we get to tell them all the things we really
want people to know. It is also fun to get a new
perspective on what they already know about
what we do. Most of all, it gets us thinking about
how far we have come and what we have endured
to get here.

At this point most of our customers come to us
by reputation. They know they can depend
on us for fresh and delicious food made with
caring hands. But there is so much more to tell.

Griff and I always envisioned being a
neighborhood bakery. We wanted to a create a
sense of community and a space where people
would gather and hang out. We also wanted to
become a food landmark for Savannah.
Mission accomplished.

So many events have happened over the years:
a wedding in the bakery, a memorial for my
sister Natalie where many friends came to show
us how Natalie touched their lives and to show
support for us.

Also, babies being born, Cancer victories being
won, new friends coming and moving away...
and so many other events that have turned
strangers into close friends.

Our connection to people made through
great food keeps us wanting to rise in the wee
hours of the morning to do what we do.

We also wanted to work with people
that we really enjoy and consider our
extended family who believe in what we do.
We wanted to teach and learn from others
passionate about the art of baking.
This has been our toughest challenge and
at last I am happy to report that we have finally
achieved this goal also.

To say it's been a hard road so far is an
understatement, but well worth the wait.
We have so many new ideas coming down
the road and are excited to grow a little more.

The journalist "got it" when he walked into our
bakery today. After devouring a banana
pudding he said... they don't make this back
from where I'm from...this should be illegal.

The Future looks bright

It has been a whirlwind week at the bakery.
During the midst of it all, I had the opportunity
to hang out with Paula Deen for another new
season of her show.

She is always a great source of inspiration for
me and I always enjoy spending the day with
her. She invited me into her make-up room and
we talked about everything from The Obamas
to Oprah. As always, we were laughing & having
SOoo much fun that I almost forgot the cameras
were rolling. I made so many new friends and
thanks to my friend Cedric Smith I was able to
document it all for future blogging

So stay tuned...

A Gift From Bella

Bella comes in every Saturday after karate
class for a red velvet cupcake. No matter
how busy I am on Saturday, I will always
take a few minutes to chat with her about
Karate class, cupcakes, & vintage ballerina
cupcake toppers. She collects cupcake
toppers & I have given her some of her
favorites she tells me.

Isn't it amazing how you can connect
with someone in such a short amount
of time and then other people don't
take the time to know you at all.

I still remember visits to blums bakery
with my dad buying pastries and
having special moments with him.
It inspires me to know that I am creating
memories for Bella and her Mom too.
Today she brought me a special gift
because she told her mother
that she just knew I would love it.

Bella is one of the many reasons
I love what I do at the bakery.

Dream a Bigger Dream

"If there is anyone out there who still doubts
that America is a place where all things are
possible; who still wonders if the dream of
our founders is alive in our time;
who still questions
the power of our democracy,
today is your answer."

Barack Obama
44th President of the United States of America
